Description
This once unwanted console table was constructed around 1870 in Wisconsin probably by Scandinavian settlers. Carved entirely from solid cherry wood, it has been restored to the smoothest most tactile of finishes. It is as beautiful to touch as it is to see.
The table body has been constructed without glue or nails, just exquisite mastercraftmanship. The drawer uses the Knapp Joint, only used from 1870 to 1900 in the USA.
The legs, attached with the original large wing nuts and bolts, are easily removed for transit. The cherry wood has been treated with Odies Oil to bring out the rich tones of the grain as well as make it wonderfully smooth. The oil, derived from trees, is totally natural with no solvents or hardeners. It resists stains, moisture, and water as well as wine, oil, grease, saliva, and juice etc.
For full details of the history and restoration of this rare table see my blog post.
There is a thick shaped glass top which protects the table. The glass edges are perfectly smooth and have stood the test of time (unlikely to be the same 150+ years as the table though) but there are small general wear and tear scratches on the surface of the glass.
